Get your parcel ready to go without putting private information on public display. A clear label carries only the details needed for delivery—and keeps payment secrets and unrelated personal data off the box.

When you’re ready, start on Send to see the options and prices that apply to your parcel, including available Express and Same-Day choices.

Myth check: More information always makes delivery easier

The common belief: Add every detail that might help

It can feel safer to write extra details on the parcel, from payment information to order notes. But the label is visible as the parcel moves. Extra information can expose the recipient and distract from the details the courier needs.

What should go on a parcel label?

Use the fields requested by the courier you choose. Typically, that means the recipient’s name, a usable delivery address or agreed landmark, and a contact number if requested. Add sender or return details if requested, too. Don’t assume every service uses the same fields.

  • Check the recipient’s name, address and contact details for accuracy.
  • Make sure the label is legible and firmly attached.
  • Remove old labels and barcodes from a reused box, or cover them completely.

What should never be written on the outside of a parcel?

  • Payment-card details, M-Pesa PINs or payment codes.
  • Identity numbers.
  • Unrelated personal information, order references or marketing messages.

If a courier requests information for a legitimate process, provide it through the requested channel instead of adding it to the public-facing label.

Why do people mix up delivery details with private information?

A recipient’s name or contact number may help identify or deliver a parcel when the chosen courier requests it. That doesn’t make payment secrets, identity numbers or unrelated personal details suitable for the outside of a box. Keep the label focused on delivery.

Sharing a parcel-label photo? Cover these details first

Before posting an example or screenshot, obscure names, phone numbers, full addresses, tracking numbers, barcodes or QR codes, and order or payment references. Check the image at full size to make sure nothing is still readable.

Quick check before handover: the requested delivery details are correct and readable, the label is firmly attached, and old labels or barcodes are removed or fully covered.
