Get your order ready to hand over with fewer follow-up questions: describe exactly what’s inside, how it’s packed and what condition it’s in. Batteries, liquids, powders and aerosols can change what a carrier needs to know, so use this checklist before you ask.

What is this parcel checklist for?
The more accurately you describe an item, the easier it is to ask the right acceptance and packing questions. Don’t assume a product is accepted or refused just because it contains a particular material. Give the carrier the details and ask about that specific item and its packaging.
What details should you have ready?
For every parcel
- Exact item name and what it is used for—avoid vague descriptions such as “personal care item.”
- Quantity and a clear description of everything in the parcel.
- Whether each item is new, used, damaged or being returned.
- Declared value, plus the sender’s and recipient’s details.
- Any product or purchase paperwork you already have.
For batteries
- Battery type, if known, such as lithium-ion or lithium-metal.
- Whether the battery is loose, packed with equipment or installed in equipment.
- How it is protected from damage and short circuits, and how the parcel is packed.
- Any battery markings, labels or documents already provided for the item.
Battery requirements can depend on the item and how it will travel. Share the specific details and ask what information or preparation is needed; don’t treat a general checklist as confirmation that a battery can be sent.
For liquids, aerosols, powders and fragile goods
- Name the actual substance or product and say how much is included.
- Say whether its container is sealed, and describe the packaging around it.
- Explain how the parcel is protected against leaks, spills or breakage.
- For aerosols or powders, describe the product rather than relying on a broad category.
Used, damaged or returned? Say so up front
Be direct about visible damage, a leaking container, missing product details or a return. Pause and clarify before handover if the contents or paperwork are unclear. Accurate details help you avoid mismatches between what you describe and what is actually in the parcel.
Which documents might you be asked for?
Have any product, purchase or shipping paperwork ready to refer to. For an international or customs-related shipment, ask which documents apply to that parcel and destination; an invoice, packing list or permit may be relevant depending on the context. Check that any paperwork matches the parcel’s contents.
Easy-to-miss details that cause back-and-forth
- Calling a product only by its broad category instead of its exact name.
- Leaving out whether a battery is loose, packed with equipment or installed.
- Not mentioning a damaged, leaking or returned item.
- Describing packaging without saying how it protects the contents.
- Sending paperwork that doesn’t match what is in the parcel.
