Keep every parcel label easy to scan and every handover easier to manage. A quick check helps prevent smudged barcodes, misleading old labels and unclear seal records from slowing your dispatch routine.

What is this parcel-label checklist for?
Use it before handover, especially when you’re packing several customer orders. Check that the label belongs to the right order, can be read clearly, and won’t be confused with markings from an earlier shipment. Then record any seal details in a way that describes what you observed—not what you cannot prove.
How should you place and check a parcel label?
- Match the label to the order before attaching it. Check that the recipient details and parcel reference are correct.
- Place the label flat on a clear surface. Keep the barcode unobstructed and away from folds, seams and edges that could wrinkle it.
- Check that the address and barcode are legible, with no smudges, tears or creases across important information.
- Press the label edges down so they sit securely against the parcel.
- If the label is creased, damaged or poorly positioned, replace or reposition it before dispatch rather than hoping it will scan.
What should you do with old labels and markings?
Reusing a carton? Remove previous shipping labels and markings that no longer apply. If a marking cannot be removed, cover it completely so it cannot be mistaken for current delivery information. Check handling or hazard markings too: they should accurately describe the parcel you’re sending.
How do you record a tamper-evident seal honestly?
- Use a seal intended to show signs of interference if recording tampering matters for the order.
- Record the parcel reference, seal identifier, dispatch date and time, and the seal’s visible condition.
- Keep a dispatch photo if it helps your records.
- Describe what you observed—for example, that the seal appeared intact at handover. A seal record is evidence of its recorded condition, not proof that a parcel was never opened.
What’s easy to miss before handover?
- Label creation is not the same as a handover or scan. Record when the parcel leaves your control, and use available tracking events as the basis for customer updates.
- Check the finished parcel once more: the current label should be clear, securely attached and the only readable shipment label.
- Make the check repeatable. Use the same order—match, inspect, secure, clear old markings, record the seal—so busy dispatch days don’t depend on memory.
