Use these general checks to help prevent avoidable packing mistakes. Check the instructions for the option you choose before you hand over your parcel.
- Choose sturdy packaging that suits the parcel’s size, weight and shape. Cushion the contents and fill empty space so items are less likely to shift.
- Close the parcel, then gently shake it. If the contents move, add more cushioning before sealing it securely with packaging tape.
- Protect fragile items with padding and brace heavy items so they cannot shift. Shield sharp edges and points so they cannot pierce the packaging.
- If you’re reusing a box, remove or cover old labels and markings. Make sure the current recipient details are clear.
- Before packing sharp or unusual items, check with the courier whether they can be sent and whether any special preparation is needed.
