Before You Pay, Put the Online Order in One Clear Message

Before paying for a chat or social-media order, recap the item, price, delivery arrangement, destination, contact and timing, then ask for corrections if needed.

Before paying for an online order agreed by chat, send one concise message that recaps the product name, variant and quantity; the goods total; any separately charged delivery cost and who agreed to pay it; the delivery or collection arrangement; the destination and contact person; and any agreed timing. Ask the seller to confirm or correct it before you pay. Kenya’s National E-Commerce Strategy includes goods orders placed through texts and social media in its description of informal e-commerce, which is one reason a clear written recap can be useful.[1]

Here is a ready-to-send example: “Please confirm: [product, variant], quantity [number]; goods total KSh [amount]; delivery KSh [amount, paid by buyer/seller] or [collection plan]; send to [destination], contact [name and phone]; expected [agreed timing]. Is that correct?” Treat this as a practical record of what you discussed, not a guarantee of a remedy or proof that a chat is automatically a signed agreement.

What to include in the order recap

Keep the message short, but make each agreed detail specific enough for both of you to spot a misunderstanding before payment. Name the exact item and variant, such as size or colour where relevant, and state the quantity. Separate the goods total from any delivery charge, and say who agreed to pay that charge.

Then record whether the goods are to be delivered or collected, the agreed destination and the person to contact, plus any timing you discussed. If a detail is missing or the recap is wrong, ask for a concrete correction before paying. Keep the recap and, if a courier is booked, its booking confirmation or receipt as separate records.

These fields are a practical buyer’s checklist, not a statutory checklist. Article 46 of the Constitution protects consumer rights that include necessary information about goods and services, reasonable quality and protection of economic interests; it does not prescribe these particular fields for social-media orders.[2]

Why clear terms help

The Competition Authority of Kenya discusses payment, returns, delivery period and pricing as concerns to address proactively in the drop-shipping model. That is a specific business model and context; it does not establish that the same rule applies to every seller or channel. For your order, use those topics as a reminder to clarify the terms relevant to your agreement, rather than as a universal legal requirement.[3]

Once you and the seller are ready to send the goods, either of you can check Moveka Send options and prices using the actual parcel details and locations. Moveka is cashless. Pay on Delivery means digital Money payment authoritatively confirmed before the package is released.

For fulfilment, check the available Moveka Send option and price against the agreed parcel and locations before arranging the send: .
