What is this phone and laptop courier checklist for?
It helps you and the other party agree on the device’s condition, prepare it for transit and understand what to do if something goes wrong. Whether a sale is arranged over messages or after meeting in the CBD, make the condition and handover plan clear before packing.
Before booking: what should the buyer and seller check?
- Record the device powered on, its condition, serial number and included accessories in private photos or video. Keep the record for your transaction; share identifying details only with the buyer or courier when needed.
- Agree in writing on the device’s condition, what accessories are included, and who will contact the courier if there is a problem.
- Ask the courier in writing whether it accepts a phone or laptop with its battery installed, and what restrictions apply to damaged or swollen batteries.
- Ask what protection applies to loss or damage, what exclusions apply, whether declared value changes liability or provides separate cover, and how and when a claim must be filed. Keep the reply with your booking record.
- Back up the device, sign out of accounts and remove a SIM or memory card if appropriate. Agree with the buyer what data or setup must remain; erase personal data only after confirming they have what they need.
How do you pack a phone or laptop to protect the screen?
- Power the device off and protect its power button so it cannot switch on accidentally.
- Wrap the device separately. Cushion the screen, edges and corners, and use anti-static protective material for sensitive electronics.
- Choose a sturdy box and immobilize the device with cushioning on every side. Add protection between the device and any accessories so nothing rattles or presses against the screen.
- Close the box and gently check for movement. If the contents shift, open it and add cushioning before sealing the seams securely with suitable packaging tape.
- If reusing a box, cover old address details. Put a duplicate delivery and return address inside in case the outside label is damaged.
Easy-to-miss details before you hand over the parcel
At handover, keep the booking or waybill reference and proof the courier accepted the parcel. Ask the recipient to photograph the outer package before opening it, note any visible damage, and promptly record the unboxing and device condition. Keep the packaging, receipts and messages if there is an issue.
