What this big-delivery checklist helps you do

Check the item against your order, look for visible damage, and make sure it can reach its intended spot safely. Keep your order details and delivery record handy in case you need to report a concern.

Before the delivery crew leaves: what should you check?

  • Compare the item with your order, including the model or other identifying details where you can.
  • Look over the packaging for damage or signs of tampering, then inspect visible surfaces for dents, cracks or other concerns.
  • For a large item, trace the whole path from the vehicle to its final position: gates, stairs, tight corners and the final doorway. Measure narrow points if needed.
  • If the item will not fit, or access seems unsafe, pause. Ask the crew and seller what options are available before agreeing to leave it somewhere or trying to move it unsafely.
  • If you see damage or an access problem, describe it on the delivery record before signing if the process allows. Keep a copy or take a photo of the record.

After unwrapping: what should you inspect?

  • Check the item’s exterior and compare it with your order.
  • Photograph any damage or mismatch you find, and keep the packaging and delivery records.
  • Contact the seller or delivery provider using your order details. Their reporting procedures can differ, so check the relevant instructions and report the concern promptly.

Found concealed damage later?

Photograph the damage when you discover it. Keep the packaging, order details and delivery record, then contact the seller or delivery provider promptly and follow their instructions. Don’t assume that signing the delivery record settles the issue; check the terms that apply to your order.

Make your delivery record useful: note the concern clearly if the process allows, and keep a copy or photo for your records.
