Keep your move moving—even if the new keys are late. Line up collection, storage and delivery before move day so your belongings aren’t left without a clear next step.
If your plan includes sending a parcel, start with your route and parcel details to see the options and prices that apply.
What should you do when the new place isn’t ready?
Treat the gap as a coordination job, not a last-minute scramble. Make one shared plan with three milestones: collection from your old place, storage intake and delivery to your new place. For each one, record the date, the person responsible, access requirements and anything still waiting for confirmation.
What should you line up before move day?
- Check the move-out rules at your old building and the move-in rules at your new one before settling on dates. Confirm permitted hours, gate passes, caretaker or landlord clearance, and lift bookings where needed.
- Agree who is coordinating each handoff: collection, storage intake and final delivery. Share the right contact details and instructions with everyone involved.
- Before storage, agree how the inventory will identify each box or item, note its condition and track it through to delivery. Keep your own copy and flag fragile or valuable belongings.
- Ask the storage provider how retrieval works and whether any items need to be disclosed or approved in advance. Don’t assume you can access stored belongings immediately.
- Label boxes on their sides so the labels stay visible when they’re stacked. Pack a separate essentials bag and note any items you may need to retrieve during the gap.
What does a simple handoff plan look like?
If your move-out date is set but access to the new place is not, record the collection and storage intake as separate milestones. Add the person handling each handoff, the building access instructions and the delivery details you still need. Agree on the storage arrangement and final delivery instructions before belongings leave the old place.
What if the keys or move-in date change?
Plan for a late key or unavailable premises as a possibility, not as a confirmed storage booking. Keep the storage contact and retrieval instructions with your plan, and update the final delivery details when access is agreed. For fragile or high-value belongings, ask about applicable handling and cover before handover.
