Choose the right crew and vehicle before you book—and avoid the driver arriving without the help or space your bulky item needs. Weight matters, but so do the item’s dimensions, the route out of the building and how it will be loaded.

Does a bulky item need two people or a bigger vehicle?

Decide on the crew, equipment and vehicle together. A second person can help with a difficult lift, but they cannot make an item fit through a narrow doorway or into a vehicle that is too small. Share the item and access details before booking, then ask what setup is proposed for that exact job.

What should you tell the courier before booking?

  • The item’s approximate height, width and depth, plus its approximate weight if you know it.
  • Whether it can be disassembled, and whether it has handles or loose, removable parts.
  • The full carry route: steps, narrow turns, lift or stair access, and the distance from the door to the vehicle.
  • Any loading constraint, such as needing the item transported upright.

How do you choose the crew, equipment and vehicle?

Ask what crew size, handling equipment and vehicle loading setup are planned for your item and access route. Check that the vehicle can accommodate the item’s dimensions and any transport requirements. Don’t assume that adding a person solves a tight clearance or loading problem.

  • A heavy or awkward lift may call for another person or suitable lifting equipment.
  • A long carry, high lift or difficult grip can change the plan, even when an item does not seem unusually heavy.
  • A tight doorway, stair turn or vehicle opening may call for disassembly or a different loading plan.

Example: will a wardrobe fit through a tight stairwell?

Share the wardrobe’s dimensions and clear photos of the tight turns before booking. Ask whether it needs disassembly and how it will be loaded. Judging by weight alone could leave you with an item that cannot get out of the building—or fit into the vehicle.

What if the item is an appliance?

Check the manufacturer’s instructions for moving and restarting it; handling requirements can vary by appliance. Secure loose doors or removable parts, and clear the carry path before the crew arrives.
