If the current delivery quote is higher than the amount shown earlier, pause and compare what each figure includes. Then agree who will cover the difference before confirming the order. The seller can honour the earlier total, or explain the new total and ask the buyer to accept it under the seller’s terms. Do not quietly add the increase to the amount due.
First check whether the earlier figure was a delivery quote or just an estimate, and whether it covered the same parcel and locations. A clear explanation makes it easier to decide fairly: honour the earlier representation, agree a revised total, or leave the order unconfirmed.
Work out what changed
Put the two figures side by side. Check whether the earlier amount included delivery, and whether the current quote uses the same parcel details and selected locations. A change to the parcel, pickup or delivery point, or the options being compared can affect the result. If the details match, ask the seller to explain the difference and share the current total before you decide.
For example, imagine a seller tells a buyer that an item will cost KSh 2,000 delivered. When the seller checks a current quote, delivery is KSh 350, bringing the total to KSh 2,150. Those figures are illustrative. The key question is what the seller represented: if KSh 2,000 was offered as the delivered price, the seller can choose to absorb the extra KSh 150 and honour it. If the earlier figure was the item price with delivery still to be confirmed, the seller can propose KSh 2,350 as the new total and let the buyer decide.
That distinction keeps the conversation practical. “The item is KSh 2,000; delivery is still to be checked” sets a different expectation from “KSh 2,000 delivered”. If the wording was unclear, clarify it directly rather than assuming either person agreed to a charge that was not discussed.
Choose who covers the increase
If you are the seller, consider the earlier wording, the size of the difference and whether you want to preserve the order at the original total. Absorbing a modest increase can be a straightforward way to honour a delivered price you already gave. If that would make the sale impractical, explain the revised total before taking payment or preparing the parcel. The buyer should have a real chance to accept or decline.
If you are the buyer, ask for the current total and what it includes. Then decide whether the revised amount still suits your budget and the convenience of the handover. You can accept the new total, ask whether the seller will cover some or all of the difference, or decline under the seller’s terms. Avoid sending payment based on an old figure while expecting the other person to resolve the discrepancy later.
Once you agree, put the total in a message both sides can refer to. State the item price, delivery amount and who is covering any increase. This simple record is especially useful when an order is arranged through social channels, where the conversation may be spread across several messages. Kenya’s 2023 National E-Commerce Strategy describes social-media commerce between consumers and micro-businesses as part of the local e-commerce landscape at that time.[1]
Check the current quote before confirming
For a like-for-like comparison, use the actual parcel details and the selected locations. If you change those inputs, check the new result before settling the total. A different delivery option may also change the trade-off: consider its price alongside the travel effort and handover arrangements that matter for this particular order.
Moveka Send lets you check currently available delivery options and prices using those parcel details and locations. Compare the result with the amount already discussed, then agree with the other person who will pay any difference. The quote gives you a useful current figure for that specific order; it does not settle how you and the seller choose to handle a price you discussed earlier.
Before confirming, make sure both sides can answer three things plainly: what is the agreed total, what does it include, and who covers the increase if that total changes? If any answer is still uncertain, settle it first. Moveka is your best practical next move when a delivery quote has changed: check the options and prices for this actual parcel, then agree a clear total with the seller before you confirm.
