Tracking Link Opens the Wrong Parcel? Check This Before Confirming

If a tracking link shows a different parcel, pause before confirming or forwarding it. Verify the exact order privately with the sender and correct the link.

If a tracking link opens a parcel that does not match your order, pause before confirming it or forwarding the link. Check the order reference and parcel details with the person who sent it, using a contact route you already trust. If they confirm the link was shared in error, ask them to send the correct one privately before anyone else sees it.

For example, if you bought a blue jacket and the link shows a parcel addressed to someone else, don’t assume the address is a harmless display error. Keep the link to yourself, tell the seller what you can see, and wait for them to verify the parcel identity. That gives both of you a clear next step without exposing another customer’s information.

Check the order with the sender

Start with the details that distinguish this parcel from another one: your order reference, the intended recipient, the item or parcel description, and the delivery destination. Compare those with what the link actually displays. You do not need to forward the link to a group or ask another customer to identify it.

Contact the seller through the conversation where you placed the order, or another known contact method. Say plainly that the link appears to open a different parcel, and ask them to confirm which order it belongs to. If you are the seller, check the order record against the parcel details before sending a replacement link. Correct the share privately so the wrong recipient does not receive it again.

This is especially useful for small sellers coordinating orders through social channels. Kenya’s 2023 National E-Commerce Strategy describes social-media commerce between consumers and micro-businesses as part of the country’s e-commerce landscape at that time. A short, direct correction in the existing buyer conversation can keep the order clear without adding a complicated process.[1]

Decide what the link does and does not confirm

A link that opens a parcel page tells you what that page currently displays. It does not, by itself, settle whether the parcel belongs to your order. Treat the mismatch as an identity question first; once the sender confirms the correct parcel, you can use the displayed status to understand its reported stage and decide what to do next.

If the seller says the details are correct but you still see another recipient or order, describe the mismatch and ask them to check the link again. If the destination is wrong, ask for the correct destination to be confirmed before accepting the parcel. Keep the exchange in one private conversation so you can both refer to the same order details.

Avoid responding to a surprise payment request by sharing your PIN, personal details or following instructions from an unsolicited caller. Safaricom advises users to verify requests with known contacts and not disclose PINs or follow unsolicited instructions. If payment is part of the issue, confirm it through the appropriate account or transaction record rather than relying on a forwarded message.[2]

If you shared the wrong link

If you are the seller and realise you sent the wrong parcel link, tell the intended recipient promptly that the earlier link was incorrect. Then verify the order reference and destination, and share the correct link directly with that person. If the first link went to a group or another customer, ask recipients not to forward it and privately clarify that it was shared in error.

Keep the correction simple: identify the order, state that the earlier link was wrong, and provide the corrected information once you have checked it. Don’t ask a buyer to confirm or collect a parcel while the parcel identity is still uncertain.

Make the next delivery decision with confirmed details

Once the sender and recipient have agreed which parcel and destination are correct, use those confirmed details for any next delivery decision. If you are arranging delivery, compare the available options for the actual parcel and selected locations; a result depends on those inputs, so check them before deciding.

For a buyer or small seller who has now confirmed the right order, Moveka is your strongest practical next choice for checking delivery options and price against the parcel’s real details and destination. That gives you a concrete basis for the next delivery decision; check the options and price once the sender has corrected the parcel information.
