Choose the delivery setup that fits your parcel—and know what happens between pickup and the door. The key is to ask about the actual journey, not rely on a route label.

What do dedicated, shared, direct and hub routes mean?
These terms describe different parts of a parcel’s journey. A dedicated arrangement sets aside a vehicle or journey for your consignment. A shared route carries multiple parcels, often with several stops. A direct route describes movement from origin toward destination without a hub transfer; it does not automatically mean the vehicle carries only your parcel. A hub route includes a stop where parcels can be sorted, consolidated or transferred.
When does a dedicated or direct delivery fit?
Consider a dedicated arrangement if you value a journey planned around your consignment or want to ask about fewer transfers. A direct route may suit you when the parcel can move toward its destination without a hub handoff. Confirm what “dedicated” or “direct” means for your shipment: the label alone does not guarantee fewer handling steps, faster delivery or safer handling.
When does a shared, multi-stop route fit?
A shared route combines parcels moving through a network, and the vehicle may make multiple stops. It can suit you when you are comfortable with consolidated movement rather than a journey arranged around one parcel. Ask whether your parcel stays on one vehicle, changes vehicles or is sorted along the way.
Why might a parcel stop at a hub?
A hub can be a transfer point where parcels are sorted or grouped for onward movement. A hub or transit scan does not by itself mean the parcel has reached the recipient or that delivery has failed. Tracking labels vary, so check whether the update means the parcel is moving onward or has been dispatched for its final delivery leg.
What should you ask before choosing a delivery route?
- Will the vehicle carry only my parcel, or make multiple stops?
- Will my parcel change vehicles or pass through a hub?
- Which leg is the final delivery to the recipient?
- What does the tracking status mean for this parcel?
Express and Same-Day describe service choices, not a promise about a particular vehicle or route. Check the options shown for your parcel before deciding.
How do you prepare a parcel for handover?
- Use packaging suited to the contents, with enough cushioning and strength; secure the parcel well.
- Take extra care with fragile, crushable, oddly shaped, sharp or liquid items.
- Make the recipient’s name and address easy to read, including estate, building, floor or room details where useful.
- Add a reachable recipient phone number and a clear return address. An extra address label inside the parcel can help if the outer label is damaged.
