Get your furniture to the right place without a last-minute carry-up surprise: agree exactly where the handover ends before dispatch. A gate drop and placement in your chosen room are different scopes—so clarify who carries, unpacks and assembles the item.

What’s the difference between curbside and room-of-choice delivery?

The key difference is the agreed handover point. With a curbside or gate drop, you may need to move the item from there yourself. Room-of-choice delivery means the agreed handover is inside a specified room. Don’t assume either option includes stairs, lift access, unpacking or assembly—confirm each part in advance.

When does a gate or curbside handover make sense?

Choose this arrangement only if you can safely move the furniture onward and have a clear plan for who will help. It can suit a smaller item or a location where you can manage the carry. Confirm who unloads it and exactly where the crew will leave it.

When should you choose room placement?

Room placement may suit bulky or awkward furniture, or when you need help with the final carry. Name the room and confirm whether the agreed scope includes carrying past the gate, using stairs or a lift, and placing the item where you want it. Treat unpacking, assembly, installation and packaging removal as separate questions.

What should you confirm before furniture dispatch?

  • Where exactly does the handover happen: at the curb, gate, building entrance or inside a named room?
  • Who carries the furniture beyond the gate, and who loads and unloads it?
  • Are stairs or a lift part of the agreed scope? Share the floor level and any access limits.
  • Are unpacking, assembly or installation, and packaging removal included, or handled separately?
  • Will the item fit through the doorway and along the full route? Measure the furniture, entrances, lift and stair turns.
  • Are there gate, security or access procedures to arrange? Clear the route and the final space beforehand.
  • Arrange for an authorised person to receive and inspect the item. Note visible concerns and keep the delivery documentation before signing off.
Get the handover scope confirmed in writing before dispatch. A clear agreement on the last metre can prevent a costly misunderstanding when the delivery arrives.

Questions to ask before the crew arrives

  • Will the crew carry it past the gate?
  • Which room will they take it to?
  • Are stairs or a lift included in the agreed handover?
  • Who unpacks or assembles it?
  • Who should be present to receive and inspect the item?
